Braces are expensive, and the last thing you want is to have that large investment in your teeth broken. Going through the process of getting braces and straightening your teeth lasts quite a while, and broken components of your braces can extend that time frame beyond what you originally expected. That’s why our team here at Wink Orthodontics wants to help inform you about how best to deal with damaged braces.

If something on your braces becomes loose or is damaged, you should call Dr. Mo at (469) 850-5555 [Prosper] or (817) 581-4031 [Colleyville] to schedule an appointment to have them repaired. Even a minor problem can increase how long you need to wear braces.

If for some reason you can’t immediately contact Dr. Mo, there are a few things you can do to help manage the problem until you can get in.

When you were first fitted for your braces Dr. Mo gave you a piece of special orthodontic wax. You can try to secure a broken wire or loose bracket inside the orthodontic wax to protect your mouth. If you don’t have the wax handy, you can make do in a pinch with a pencil eraser. If you have a metal band come off don’t try to put it back on.

It’s not uncommon for a spacer to fall out shortly before you are due for your next adjustment session. You should call Dr. Mo as soon as possible so he can assess the situation and determine the best course of action.

For any orthodontic emergency, contact us immediately. We’re more than happy to help you, and we want you to have a positive orthodontic experience.
